'Like' https://Facebook.com/RussHowePTI Among the most proven muscle building techniques are Add Sets. Fitness Instructor Russ Howe today walks you through exactly what Add Sets are comprised of, and explains how they will help you to increase your muscle building results if you have hit a plateau with your weight training.Much like Drop sets and Super sets, Add Sets will push you to absolute failure and force you to feel a very hard burn from the muscle you choose to work, so it's important you follow Russ' safety advice here and only perform exercises such as Bench Press or Shoulder Press if you have a spotter ready to help you out.Used by body builders, pro athletes and olympians alike, this technique is an excellent way for blasting a muscle to new growth after you hit a wall. It works particularly well when training your calves, as they recover quite fast, and this is a top way to build muscular arms, too. Feb 22, 2012 - awesome tip, great explanation!
RussHowePTI Says:
Feb 22, 2012 - Supersets involves doing two separate exercises one after the other. This works great when training antagonistic muscle groups, such as biceps & triceps or chest and back. For example, a set of 15 reps of bicep curls immediately followed by 15 reps of triceps pushdowns with no rest in between. That's one Super Set. Then rest and repeat.Russ

Apr 28, 2012 - Alright Russ, I'm assuming Add sets/Drop sets work when using a weights machine? One question! When lifting heavy i'm doing 3 sets of 8 or 6, what is the rest time i should be having before starting my next set, and would this change with add and drop sets?
RussHowePTI Says:
Apr 29, 2012 - Yes this is far easier on a machine as the change in weights can be done in a second, whereas with barbells and dumbbells it takes longer much like dropsets. When training heavy aim to have 90-120 seconds of rest between sets.Russ
